Long-time Barrington Business Owners Team Up to Open Long Story Short Pub and Eatery

One year after McGonigal’s Pub announced its closure, the community has just learned about a new venture on the horizon. Long-time Barrington business owners Brian Long and Bryan McGonigal are teaming up to open Long Story Short Pub & Eatery, set to debut in late spring 2025 at 113 E. Main Street.

The establishment will feature a nostalgic atmosphere, reminiscent of the charm of McGonigal’s Pub’s. Filled with village memorabilia and a true “Cheers”-like vibe, Long Story Short aims to create a space where everyone feels at home.

A nod to Barrington’s history, the eatery will also house “Baloney’s East”, a tribute to the popular menu offerings of Baloney’s, the restaurant once connected to the historic Catlow Theatre.

Brian Long, who has owned Long & Co. Jewelers for 19 years, is also working to restore the Catlow Theatre through the Catlow 1927 Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the cultural landmark. While Long Story Short is a separate venture, it will support and promote the foundation’s work, further enriching the area’s cultural and community offerings.

“Barrington is a special place, and this partnership is about celebrating its past while looking forward to its future,” said Long and McGonigal in a Facebook post on 12/6.

Long Story Short will be located just east of Long & Co. Jewelers and steps away from the former McGonigal’s Pub location, cementing its place in the heart of Barrington. Construction is underway, with furniture, fixtures, and equipment already being prepared for the launch.

There are no updates on the status of the former McGonigal’s space as of now.
