My Density Matters Raises $15,000 at Recent “Paint The Lake Pink” Fundraiser

October 23, 2024

Over 250 walkers participated in My Density Matter’s “Paint the Lake Pink” fundraiser in Lake Zurich this past weekend, raising over $15,000. Proceeds will be used locally and throughout the Chicagoland area to help women understand their breast density and take charge of their breast cancer screenings.

“Most women don't know their breast density and for women with dense breasts, mammograms are not enough,” said Leslie Ferris Yerger, founder & CEO of My Density Matters. “Breast cancer and dense breast tissue both appear white on a mammogram making it difficult to detect. Women with dense breasts need additional screening to ensure that if they do have breast cancer, it can be found early while still curable.”

According to the non-profit, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast density also currently hinders the early diagnosis of breast cancer putting about 50% of women at risk for a potentially life-threatening, delayed diagnosis.

My Density Matters is hosting an upcoming event at the Sanfilippo Estate on Saturday, November 16th which includes a three-hour guided tour beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tickets are $75.00 each, and $50.00 from each ticket will go directly to My Density Matters.
