In his superintendent's report at the Oct. 15, 2024, Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Winkelman announced that Barrington 220 has been named the “best unit school district” in Illinois and the “ninth best district” across all types of school districts.
Unit school districts serve students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. There are 386 unit school districts across the state, including Naperville 203 and Lake Zurich 95. Other types of school districts include those that only serve students in grades 9-12, such as Adlai Stevenson High School, which received the No. 1 spot among all types of districts.
Barbara B. Rose Elementary was also named the No. 1 best public elementary school in Illinois in the latest rankings.
Niche is a popular school and neighborhood review website. Rankings are based on an analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents, using data from the U.S. Department of Education. State test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality, and high school ratings are among the ranking factors. SAT and ACT scores were removed from this year’s rankings to reflect a general de-emphasis on test scores in the college admissions process, according to Niche.
