Community Hosts Pancreatic Cancer Fundraiser in Memory of North Barrington Mother
October 29, 2024
Hundreds of community members gathered in Lake Zurich for a fall walk fundraiser in memory of Parveen Werner, a North Barrington mother of four who passed from pancreatic cancer nearly three years ago.
Families and friends met at Lago, walked along Lake Zurich, raffled gift baskets, and heard speeches from community members impacted by pancreatic cancer.
Organizers said the event raised more than $11,000, which will go toward research for the early detection of pancreatic cancer, specifically the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Moon Shots Program. The initiative aims to develop novel therapies to improve early diagnosis and overall survival rates for pancreatic cancer patients.
“It was a good day to come together to remember our wonderful friend, raise awareness about the importance of early detection of pancreatic cancer, donate money and do what we can to fight this terrible disease,” said Kelly Swann, one of the event organizers.
