Village of Barrington Shares Key Updates - Rt. 14 Project, Seasonal Event Calendar and July 4th Parade Registration

The Village of Barrington released several updates this week, including progress on the U.S. Route 14 underpass project, a newly published events guide, and the opening of registration for the 4th of July Parade.

U.S. Route 14 Project

On April 17, the Village shared the latest on the U.S. Route 14 underpass project. Residents can sign up for ongoing updates at us14underpass.com.

Key Project Updates:

  • Grading Work: Topsoil removal and grading for the temporary U.S. 14 roadway between Elm Road and U.S. 14 will begin this week. Willow Road will close starting Monday, April 21 to ensure a safe work zone.

  • Fence Relocation & Tree Removal: Fence work is ongoing, and all tree removals are complete. Cleanup of downed trees is expected to finish this week.

  • Demolition & Excavation: Interior demolition is underway at 557 N. Hough St. Exterior demolition and pump station excavation at 117 E. Northwest Hwy. will begin shortly.

  • Utility Relocations: AT&T, Comcast, Nicor, and ComEd have all initiated relocation work. Watermain relocation near Willow Road is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.

  • Culvert Installation at Elm Road: Crews will begin culvert installation on the south side of the bridge to build a temporary roadway over Flint Creek. Work on the north side of Elm Road will be minimal.

  • Hough Street Culvert: Plans are in place for a new culvert to carry Flint Creek under Hough Street. Work is pending the completion of utility relocations and permit approvals.

The Village has released its seasonal events calendar featuring a wide range of activities, including some of these community favorites:

  • Spring Wine Walk – May 10

  • Barrington Art Festival – May 24 & 25

  • Thursday Night Out – Featuring the Farmers Market & Classic Car Shows

  • Metra Lot Summer Concerts

  • 4th of July Weekend (with the Brat Tent!)

  • Sizzling Sidewalk Sales – July 25 & 26

  • National Night Out – August 7

4th of July Parade – Registration Now Open

The Village invites businesses, organizations, sports teams, dancers, musicians, and community groups to participate in this year’s 4th of July Parade down Main Street.
