Village of Barrington Announces New Police Chief, David Daigle
The Village of Barrington is pleased to announce that David Daigle has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the Barrington Police Department. Daigle brings over 30 years of exemplary service and leadership in law enforcement, most recently serving as the Chief of Police for the Palatine Police Department. This announcement follows the retirement of Barrington Police Chief John Burke, who will be taking on the role of Chief of Police in Lake Forest.
David Daigle's extensive career in law enforcement began in 1993 when he joined the Palatine Police Department as a Patrol Officer. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, holding various positions, including Detective, Sergeant, Commander, Deputy Chief of Field Operations, and ultimately Chief of Police in 2019. His experience spans multiple areas of law enforcement, including juvenile officer, lead homicide investigator, forensic technician and public information officer, among others.
A graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Daigle has also completed advanced training at several other institutions. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and has completed programs at the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, the Southwest Law Enforcement Institute and the Delinquency Control Institute at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
During his tenure with the Palatine Police Department, Daigle was instrumental in implementing neighborhood-based policing, which focused on community engagement and citizen satisfaction. His leadership in establishing policies, procedures, and high ethical standards has left a lasting impact on the department and the community he served.
"We are excited to welcome David Daigle as Barrington’s next Chief of Police," said Village President Karen Darch. "With his extensive experience and strong commitment to public service and community-oriented policing, Chief Daigle is the perfect choice to lead our Police Department. I have full confidence that he will maintain the high standards of safety and service our residents expect."
In addition to his professional achievements, Daigle has been actively involved in several law enforcement organizations. He served as President of the North Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police from 2021 to 2024 and held leadership positions with the Harper College LEJ Advisory Committee, Major Case Assistance Team Board of Directors and Northwest Police Academy.
Village Manager Scott Anderson is looking forward to working with Daigle and stated that “his remarkable track record in fostering future leaders within an organization speaks volumes, and I am confident that Chief Daigle will not only uphold but also enhance the culture of service excellence that defines the Barrington Police Department."
Reflecting on his new role, Daigle noted, "In my 30 years of law enforcement, I’ve had the honor of working alongside Barrington Police Department officers on many occasions. Their professionalism and dedication have always stood out, earning my deepest respect. I am truly excited about the opportunity to join these remarkable men and women in continuing to deliver exceptional service to the Village of Barrington."
Daigle was sworn in at the Sept. 9 Board of Trustees meeting.
The Village of Barrington extends its gratitude to recently retired Police Chief John Burke for his years of leadership and dedicated service. Chief Burke’s tenure has made a lasting impact on both our community and the Police Department, and we appreciate his contributions.
